Obituary for Nelle Fletcher (Campbell)

Mrs. Fletcher was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was former editor and publisher of the Southern Reporter newspaper in Sardis and along with her husband, she was active in the Mississippi Press Association. As an active leader in the community, Mrs. Fletcher was among those who originated the Sardis Community Birthday Calendar. She was a former leader of the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts of America, an instructor for the American Red Cross and served on the State of Mississippi Women’s Committee, under the administration of Governor Cliff Finch. Mrs. Fletcher is survived by two daughters, Vera “Vee” Fletcher Brock (Dan) of Batesville, MS and Julie Fletcher Herl of Tupelo, MS; one son, J. Crisler “Chris” Fletcher (Debbie) of Sardis, MS; one sister, Frances Alman of Pelahatchie, MS; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late A.E. “Joe” Fletcher, Jr.; one son, the late A.E. “Ernie” Fletcher, III; one brother, the late Charles J. Campbell, Jr; and her parents, the late Charles T. Campbell, Sr. and Very Lynn Campbell Langford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sardis United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 382, Sardis, MS or Gideon International, P.O. Box 112, Sardis, MS. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home - Sardis Chapel has charge of arrangements.
