Dorothy "Dot" Josephine  Laughter (Shuford)
Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Josephine Shuford Laughter, 93, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015 at Claiborne and Hughes Nursing Home in Franklin, TN.

Mrs. Laughter was born September 16, 1921 in Panola County to Eddie Scogin Shuford and Thomas Selwyn Shuford. She was a longstanding member of Batesville United Methodist Church and a very compassionate person who was always interested in her family and other people’s lives. She was a 1939 graduate of Batesville High School, attended Ole Miss, where she was a member of Phi Ku Sorority and later graduated from Bowling Green Business University. She worked in Meridian, MS and Memphis, TN before joining the United States Marine Corps, at the outbreak of World War II. She attained the rank of Sergeant and was stationed at the recruiting center in Memphis. On June 20, 1943, Dot married William Leonard Laughter. They lived in Colorado Springs, where he was stationed at Colorado College. After returning to Batesville, Dot worked for the U.S. Soil Conversation Service and the Mississippi Highway Department, until her retirement. She enjoyed her retirement and traveling during the 80’s and 90’s. In 2007, she lived briefly at Fairfield of Batesville until her relocation to a senior living facility in Nashville to be near her daughter.

Mrs. Laughter is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. Harris (James) of Brentwood, TN; her son, Selwyn Laughter (Jan) of Zonsville, IN; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Leonard Laughter and her parents. Dickins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
