James Verlon Kennedy, 89, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at his home in Batesville, MS. He was born on February 13, 1927 in Burnsville, MS to Carrie Cleo Davis Kennedy and Alfred Luther Kennedy.

He was a greeter at Walmart in Oxford and was known by his hospitality and friendly smile. He also enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ann Watson (Bobby) of Batesville, MS, Joyce Weed (William) of Saltillo, MS, and Karen Marie Acevedo (Amos) of Morro Bay, CA; two sons, Donald Glen Kennedy (Hiromi) of Covington, GA and Jimmy Dale Kennedy of Batesville, MS; two sisters, Veedy Franklin of Batesville, MS and Annie Pearl Tidwell of Crowder, MS; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Christine Kennedy; one daughter, Dorothy Christine Kennedy; one son, James Edward Kennedy; two sisters, Beedy Anderson and Hazel Kennedy; and brothers, Alfred Kennedy, John Edward Kennedy and Arthur Caroll Kennedy and his parents, Carrie Cleo Davis Kennedy and Alfred Luther Kennedy.
