Walter R. Rice, D.V.M., 85, of Jackson, TN, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Mississippi State Veteran's Home in Oxford, MS.

Dr. Rice, a United States Army Veteran, practiced veterinary medicine for many years and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, who will be deeply missed.

Dr. Rice is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Rice of Jackson, TN; one daughter, Carla Newby (Mark) of Knoxville, TN; one son, Walter Rice, Jr. (Jeanna) of Jackson, TN; one sister, Marion Nell Meade of Starkville, MS; one brother, Richard Edwin Rice of Huntsville, AL; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 2pm in the Crockett Church of Christ near Senatobia, MS. Interment will follow in Crockett Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the church on Tuesday from 1-2pm.
