Mr. Ernest L. Scruggs, 86, of Sardis, MS passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi in Oxford.
Mr. Scruggs was born on August 13, 1931 to The Late Bessie L. Jones Scruggs and Ernest C. Scruggs. Mr. Scruggs loved his Lord and Savior and his church, First Baptist Church in Sardis, where he served as a deacon and was a member for 60 years. He earned his bachelor of science and master of science degrees at Mississippi State University which lead him to teach horticulture at North Panola High School. He proudly served his country as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and was the Inspector General at Fort, McCoy, Wisconsin. Mr. Scruggs loved the Town of Sardis where he previously served as Mayor.
Mr. Scruggs leaves behind his loving family which includes his wife, Dorothy Carter Scruggs of Sardis, MS; his son, Lee Scruggs (Mary) of Pheba, MS; and his sister, Dr. Rebecca Sue Wilkie. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 3pm in the First Baptist Church in Sardis, MS with Rev. Mike Jernigan officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2pm until service time at 3pm in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
