Obituary for Fletcher C. "Fletch" Baker

Mr. Fletcher “Fletch” C. Baker, 84, of Coldwater, MS passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto in Southaven, MS.

He was born in Harnett Co, N.C. on January 2, 1934 to Eva Ann Wood and Freddie W. Baker. He was a devoted and active member of Coldwater First Baptist Church, and enjoyed gardening, yard work and wood crafting. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Especially dear to him was his home and land, where it was his heartfelt dream to raise his family and future generations on his home place, which he affectionately named “Baker’s Acres”. Mr. Baker retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of service and retired from the Department of Defense at Memphis Depot (DRMS) also after 21 years of service.

He is survived by his loving family, which includes his wife of 61 years, Darthy Jean Baker of Coldwater, MS; three sons Stephen R Baker of Port Orange, FL, Jeffery A Baker and Andrew T. Baker of Coldwater, MS; five sisters, Shirley Talton, Carolyn Burns and Joyce Palmieri, all of Fuquay, NC, Glenda Down of Garner, NC and Linda Hawk of Rockwell, TX; two brothers, Preston Baker of Fuquay, NC and Pearce Baker of Dunn, NC; six grandchildren, Stephen Ray Baker, II, Wesley P. Baker, Jessica Baker, Megan Baker, Noah Baker and Jamie Ray Baker; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward Baker and Charles W. Baker.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home – Senatobia Chapel. The family will receive friends on Tuesday in the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time at 12 p.m. Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
