William Wightman "Bill"  Hughes, III
Mr. William”Bill” Wightman Hughes, III, 76, of Sledge, MS, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Northwest MS. Medical Center in Clarksdale, MS.

Mr. Hughes was born in Memphis, TN, on December 5, 1941 to Dorothy Lamb and William Wightman Hughes, Jr. After attending boarding school at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN, he received his B.S. degree from Vanderbilt University, where he was also a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. While at Vanderbilt, he developed many lifelong friendships that have stood the test of time and distance. After college, Mr. Hughes moved to Sledge, MS, located in the MS Delta, where he spent many years as a farmer in Quitman County. He loved sports, was an avid duck hunter, a loving father and devoted grandfather.

Mr. Hughes is survived by his loving family which includes his daughters, Ginny Hughes Moser (Chad) of Clarksdale, MS and Nancy Hughes Arcemont (Cameron) of Madison, MS; four grandchildren, Emily Moser, Will Moser, Hill Arcemont and Elizabeth Arcemont. He was preceded in death by his parents, The Late Dorothy Lamb and William Wightman Hughes, Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery, followed by interment in the cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m., on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Dickins Funeral Home in Batesville, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions may be made St., Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38103. Dickins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
