Obituary for Dave Turman Jr.

Dave Turman Jr.
Dave Porter Turman, Jr. 92, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019 at his home in Sardis, MS.

Mr. Turman was born on July 4, 1926 in Osborne, MS, to Annie B. Williams and Dave Porter Turman, Sr. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Sardis, a Mason, a lifelong member of the Sardis Lions Club and was retired from South Central Bell after 34 years of employment. He loved his hometown and was always willing to do community service wherever he was needed. He was proud to be the oldest member of the Young at Heart Club, mostly because he no longer had to pay dues. Mr. Turman proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran. He was a man of many interests and hobbies including hunting, fishing, gardening and a deep love of trains, which he inherited from his father who was a train conductor. Electrically inclined, he could build anything – electrical or mechanical. He was a devoted family man who deeply loved his children and grandchildren.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving family, which includes his wife of 67 years, Peggy Ann Clark Turman of Sardis, MS; one daughter, Jan Herring (Steve) of Oxford, MS; one son, Randy Turman (Teresa) of Sardis, MS; one sister, Annie McNulty of Senatobia; one brother, J.W. Turman of Charleston, MS; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Clark Turman, one brother, Albert Turman, and his parents.

A memorial service to honor Mr. Turman's life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10am in the First Baptist Church in Sardis, MS with Rev. Mike Jernigan and Bro. Hal Johnson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church in Sardis, MS.
