Obituary for Donald Wade Armes

Donald Wade Armes
Mr. Donald Wade Armes, 84, of Sardis, MS passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.

Mr. Armes was born on October 18, 1933 in the Pleasant Grove community of Panola County, MS to The Late Abbie Marshall Armes and Roger William Armes. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and it was during his time of service where he met his loving wife, a native South Carolinian, who he would bring back to Pleasant Grove. It was there where they made their home for the rest of his life. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Peach Creek Baptist Church following previous generations of his family who helped to found and organize the church. Mr. Armes was a former employee of the Sardis Luggage Company but was best known for his taxidermy work which he performed since 1981. He loved his Ole Miss Rebels, was an avid hunter, but above all, he was a good neighbor and friend who had a kind heart.

Mr. Armes leaves behind his loving family which includes his wife of 60 years, Vera Brown Armes of Sardis, MS; one daughter, Gwenda Armes McCarty (Brian) of Bartlett, TN; one son, Stan Wade Armes of Sardis, MS; five granddaughters, Tracey, Rachel, Lauren, Molly, and April; two great-grandsons, Aiden and Cameron; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dixie Abbey and Barbara Peel; his brother, Roger Wayne Armes; and his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 3pm in Peach Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow with military honors in Peach Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the church on Wednesday from 1pm until service time at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made Gideon's International.
