Obituary for Dorothy Maxine Covington (Davis)

Mrs. Dorothy Maxine Davis Covington, 88, of Batesville, MS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.

Mrs. Covington was born on April 18, 1930, in Batesville, to The Late Ozelle Hendrix Davis and Thomas Jefferson Davis. She was a faithful member of the Batesville Presbyterian Church where she was involved in Sunday School and the Women's Circles. She loved God, her church, and her family. She spent most of her leisure time working in her yard and taking care of flowers. She is still remembered as "Miss Maxine" by all the children she loved and cared for in her daycare, Kiddie Korner.

Mrs. Covington is survived by her two children, James R. "Jimmy" Covington (Suzanne) of Sardis and Jean Robison (Hank) of Batesville; her brother, Donald Davis (Betty) of Batesville; four grandchildren, Richard Covington (Karen), Jodi Russell (Bryan), Molly Bienvenu (John), and Jason Covngton (Leslie); and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James N. Covington.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at 3pm in the Batesville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jerry Long officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery in Courtland. Visitation will be held in the church on Sunday from 2pm until service time at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Cross or to the Batesville Presbyterian Church.
