Obituary for Walter Ray Wilkie

Mr. Walter Ray Wilkie, 89, of Senatobia passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at his home.

Mr. Wilkie was born on July 2, 1929 in Panola County, MS to The Late Lena Rivers Smith Wilkie and Stanford Earl Wilkie. He earned his B.S. in Geology from The University of Mississippi and remained an avid Ole Miss fan for the rest of his life. Mr. Wilkie was a veteran of the Korean War where he proudly served in the United States Air Force. He made a career as a lab technician with MDOT until his retirement. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served as a lifetime deacon. Mr. Wilkie coached children's baseball and enjoyed fishing. He loved his farm and raising cattle, but nothing surpassed the love he had for his family and he will be deeply missed.

Mr. Wilkie leaves behind his loving family which includes his wife of 57 years, Nellie Lantrip Wilkie of Senatobia; three sons, Gregory Mark Wilkie of Senatobia, Barry Stephen Wilkie of Crenshaw, and Bryan Ray Wilkie of Mountain View, AR; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Eugene Wilkie, his parents, and his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at 2pm in the Senatobia Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Lancaster and Bro. Bryan Ray Wilkie officiating. Interment will follow in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Vardaman, MS at 4pm. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Sunday from 1pm until service time at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Mississippi Baptist Children's Village, or to any charity of the donor's choice. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
