Obituary for Christiane Georgette Carvan (Caillet)

Christiane Caillet Carvan, age 75, passed away Easter Sunday afternoon, April 21, 2019, at her home in Yalobusha County.

Christiane was born in Grenoble, France, in 1944. She spent her formative years in a Catholic school for girls where she was tutored and disciplined by Catholic nuns. She moved to England at the age of 17 and three years later, in 1964, immigrated to America. She often said her proudest moment was when she received her American citizenship papers. After living and working in Phoenix, Arizona, for several years she moved to Palo Alto, California, where she met and married Wendell Carvan in 1970.

She and Wendell relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1971, where together they established a video service company, Video Technical Services, Inc. and resided there for 30 years. In 2001 they closed their company and retired back to Oakland, Mississippi, where they built their retirement home and barn on land inherited from Wendell’s father, Orland Carvan. Christiane's true love was horses and she possessed a natural eye for the conformation of a horse which served her well. Her Appaloosa mare was awarded First Place Blue Ribbon at the 1989 World Championship Appaloosa Horse Show at Fort Worth, Texas. Then, with an American Quarter Horse she called “T-Bone,” she won the AQHA Circuit Champion award at the Florida Gold Coast Circuit in the year 2000. Her father was a chef and she inherited both the desire and talent for cooking and an appreciation of good food. Her abilities in the kitchen were well known and appreciated by those who shared her table. She was a person of many talents whose hobbies along the way included machine knitting, crochet, hand knitting and quilting.

She was pre-deceased by her father and mother. She leaves her husband, Wendell Carvan of Oakland; a sister, Camille “Miette” Caillet-Hervieu, of Sannes, France; and two nieces, Cecile Ross of the United Kingdom and Marie Christine Cerutti of Marguerites, France. Christiane was a kind and gentle soul with a fierce streak of independence that served her well. She lived life to the fullest, tackled interests with passion and conviction and pushed herself to new heights of accomplishment in all her endeavors. She will be missed by all who knew her. Dickins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
