Obituary for Thomas Glynn Oswalt

Mr. Thomas Glynn Oswalt, 69, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013 at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia, MS, with his loving family at his side. Mr. Oswalt was preceded in death by his parents, The Late Howard Glynn and Pauline Sorrells Oswalt and one sister, Frieda Oswalt Kersey.

Tom was born in Lambert, MS on December 29, 1943. His childhood home was Sledge, MS, where he graduated valedictorian of his high school class. After attending Northwest Mississippi Community College, Tom continued his education at Mississippi State University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Poultry Science and a Master's Degree in Extension Education.

He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Mary Hudspeth Oswalt of Senatobia, MS; one son, Jeffrey Glynn Oswalt (Angie) of Olive Branch, MS; one daughter, Leanne Oswalt McQuown (Jed) of Memphis, TN; four grandchildren, Max Oswalt, Kristen Oswalt, Lauren Oswalt and Lillian McQuown; and his long term care giver, Sabrina Johnson.

Tom began his career with Mississippi State Extension Service as an Assistant County Agent in Panola County, MS. He became a Horticulture Specialist for a seven-county area in North Mississippi. He retired from the University of Tennessee as a Horticulture Specialist as well. Tom is remembered for his weekly garden feature on WMC-TV's Action News 5, formerly "Wake-Up Call."

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 11am in the First United Methodist Church in Senatobia, MS. Burial will follow in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the Senatobia Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home on Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 5-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to: First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 663, Senatobia, MS 38668.
