Northwest Memories

I was honored and blessed to have been an art student of Lane Tutor during my time at Northwest Mississippi Community College.  I currently teach high school art, and I learn each day that teaching is the most important job in the world.  My getting this job (and a huge part of who I am today) is due to Mr. Tutor.  Although I never really mastered the pottery wheel, I feel that each student was molded by Lane Tutor in a special and unique way.  He introduced me to oil painting and taught me watercolor techniques that I, now, teach to my students.  I can remember funny details, like how he loved coffee and would get my name wrong from time to time.  I remember making many long-lasting friends in his art classes.  However, my greatest memory occured after I left Northwest.  In the fall of 2006, I enrolled at Memphis College of Art.  I was having a very difficult time making good grades and fitting in.  As I contemplated leaving MCA, Mr. Tutor took time out of his day to spend with me and he encouraged me to stay.  I took his advice, stayed, and became a 2009 graduate of MCA.  I owe so much to Mr. Tutor for all he's done as a professor, mentor, and a friend.  Tate County will never be the same without him.  I do believe that his legacy will continue to live and thrive through his children, students, and pottery.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Tutor family at this time.  May God continue to bless and keep you all.
