Dorothy B. "Dot"  Wingo
Mrs. Dorothy B. "Dot" Wingo, 96, of Sardis, MS, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.

Mrs. Wingo was born on June 16, 1921 in Birmingham, AL to The Late Nancy Emma Zona Logan Bartlett and Lacy Delone Bartlett, Sr. She loved the outdoors as evidenced by her enjoyment of fishing, hunting, and gardening. She also enjoyed painting, was an avid birder and reader. She was the first Brownie Scout troop leader where she served for 5 years. She was active with the Panola Playhouse Theater where she served as box office chairman to production coordinator through 11 directors and 27 shows. Mrs. Wingo organized and designed the Sardis Community Nursing Home patio and garden and participated in Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology program with Project Feeder Watch for 5 years. She earned several awards as a volunteer of conservation including a Certificate of Achievement from the Vicksburg District,, US Army Corps of Engineers, where she served as a volunteer for 14 years; the Department of the Army's Commander's Award for Public Service; the Department of the Interior's Volunteer Service Award for Outstanding Commitment to Stewardship; and a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contribution through Take Pride in America. She served as president of the Board of Trustees for Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis and through the National Wildlife Federation, had her yard and acreage declared a wildlife habitat.

Mrs. Wingo is survived by 6 nieces, 3 nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Oliver Bryson Wingo, M.D.; three sisters, Elsie Wynell B. Lawson, Edna Nell B. Edwards and Shirley K. Lee; one brother, Lacy Delone Bartlett, Jr.; and her parents.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 2pm in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis with Rev. Steve Jamison officiating. A reception will be held at the Sardis Presbyterian Church immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Wingo requested that memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
