Obituary for Polly T. Gordon

Polly T.  Gordon
Polly (Ella Louise)Thomas Gordon was born October 11th, 1921 in Tate County, MS to David Langston Thomas and Josephine Herminjard of Sarah, MS.

Polly graduated from Senatobia Agricultural High School. While attending Mississippi College for Women (MSCW) she met and married Sergeant Curtis Wilson Gordon July 16th, 1942. Following the war they settled in Sardis, MS in 1946 to raise their four children. During this time Polly continued her education and began teaching Home Economics at Sardis High School. She attended the University of Mississippi and received a Master of Arts Degree (Education) in 1964. As a Home Economics teacher she served as a club sponsor for Future Homemakers of America (FHA) and class sponsor for numerous graduating classes. She continued her teaching career at North Panola High School while obtaining a Masters of Education Degree from the University of Mississippi in 1973. She then became the Director of Vocation at Northwest Junior College.
Polly was a lifelong member of the Sardis United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, served on the Administrative Board and was passionate about the Methodist youth.

Throughout her life she was a servant to her community and others. She was active in the following organizations and clubs (just to name a few); Board of Trustee for North Panola School District, Sardis Women’s Club, Executive Director of Panola County American Red Cross, Sardis Chamber of Commerce, Past President Heflin Heritage Association of Sardis, American Legion Auxiliary, Alderman at Large City of Sardis, Board member Panola Playhouse, Boy Scouts of American, Girl Scouts of America, Realtor of the Year, and Red One Rook Club (which she loved and enjoyed until age 93).

She is survived by three children, Curtis Wilson Gordon, Jr. (Evelyn), James David Gordon (Agnes) and Charles Marvin Gordon (Cindy); ten grandchildren, James Christopher Gordon (Amy), Jana Louise Buckler (Jeremy), David Taylor Gordon (Rachel), John Mathew Gordon (Karen), Curtis Eugene Webb (Dana), Jonathan Hays Gordon (Gwen), Caroline Dixon Gordon, Dr. Charles Marvin Gordon, Jr. (Sarah), Gordon Lamar Webb (Rachel) and Andrew Young Gordon; and ten great grandchildren, Evan Christopher Gordon, Emme Louise Buckler, Austin Lee Webb, Emma Taylor Gordon, Sarah Manning Gordon, Adam Joseph Gordon, Brent Thomas Webb, Evelyn Rose Gordon, Jonathan Hays Gordon, Jr. and James Luke Webb. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Curtis Wilson Gordon; daughter, Mary Paula Gordon Webb; and sisters, Davie Jean Walker of Marked Tree, AR., and Juliette Willis.
